Frank Long Elementary

2:45-6:00PM
I had extended media hours today and FINALLY, I was busy!! I asked my principal last week if I could offer the media hours to our after school program since there is a computer lab located in the MC and I thought it could benefit teachers to be able to allow all students to get on them at the same time instead of staggering (they only have 45 minutes). So I had one teacher who took advantage of that and brought her class in to work on Study Island activities. I worked with her to help get them all logged on with their usernames and passwords (who knew that could have been so difficult given that there were only 12 kids!) Then they worked on their reading pretest. By the time some of them got logged on, they only had about 10 minutes to complete the test, so there really was not more time to do much else, but I was glad to help them where I could! Next week, they will be back and I will definitely be more prepared and ready for them! I plan to have the computers already set up - logged on, Study Island up and running, and all they have to do is put in their username and password. That will cut out a lot of downtime!

After they left, I had several teachers come in for lamination and using the ellison cutters. This is a pretty typical activity during extended hours since they struggle to get it done during their planning periods. I also had one teacher come in a look for a book on how to make a pumpkin pie. This was for her daughter's research paper. We did not find anything, but I guess I won't always! :)

These hours went much faster than other days since I was so busy. I hope the rest of my hours are spent in this manner and I will be able to be a little more helpful to the staff!
